General First-year Student Admission Requirements and Application Instructions
Requirements
To be considered for admission to Syracuse, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in, or have graduated from, an
accredited secondary school. (To learn more about the
University's home-schooling requirements, contact the Office of
Admissions at 315-443-3611.)
- We recommend taking a college preparatory
curriculum, including four years each of English, science, social studies, and mathematics (through geometry and
intermediate algebra) and a minimum of three years of a foreign language.
- While not required, you may have an
interview with a representative of the Office of Admissions. You may schedule appointments Monday through Friday on
campus or at our Metropolitan New York Office of Admissions in Manhattan. We also conduct
interviews in metropolitan areas across the country. Click here for locations
or call 315-443-3611.
- Admission to Syracuse University is contingent upon graduation from secondary school and a continued
record of good citizenship and character. You must provide a final secondary school transcript after graduation,
by July 31, 2009.

The following instructions are related to completing and submitting our downloadable PDF application, which can

- Complete the application form, including the short answer questions and 250-500 word essay question.
- Complete the Secondary School Counselor Evaluation by filling out the top portion and giving it to your guidance

college-preparatory subjects from the sophomore year on. Have them fill it out and return the completed
recommendation to your guidance counselor.
- Satisfy any special admission requirements for the Syracuse University college to which you are applying.
If you wish to apply to another Syracuse University academic division as a second or third choice, you must meet the requirements specified by that school.
- Take either the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the test battery of the American College Testing Program (ACT).
If you choose to take only the ACT, you must take the optional Writing Test. Be sure to have your test score reports forwarded to Syracuse University.
The SAT College Board number for Syracuse University is 2823. The ACT Assessment Code for Syracuse University is 2968.
- Request that your guidance counselor submit the Senior Grade Report from your secondary school as soon as possible.
Students applying under the Early Decision plan should submit their first available senior year grades. The Admissions
Committee will not make a decision without senior year grades for students applying under the Regular Decision plan.
- If possible, have your guidance counselor submit the following materials together to the appropriate address, based on the plan under which you are
applying. See mailing addresses.
